Push

23 02 2009

It has been a while since I have gone and seen a movie in the theater.  So yesterday, I decided that it was time to get out and see one of the new movies that has come out.  After being told by Yahoo Movies that there were no movies in my area, I checked Fandango.com to be sure that all the theaters in my area hadn’t closed suddenly.  They hadn’t, and Yahoo Movies is now dead to me.

So Push, a movie about people with super powers.  Cue the snoring sound effect!  This movie was boring at times and didn’t hold my attention at all during parts without people getting the stuff kicked out of them.  However, it wasn’t a complete loss.  There were genuie points where the story was about to take off, but failed.  Dakoda Fanning drunk!  Come on!  You could have milked that scene for a few more minutes at least.  The whole time I had a feeling that there was so much more to the story then what was happening on screen that it was palatable.

Bottom line, wait for the DVD.  Rent it, stream it, whatever.  Just don’t pay $7.50 for it.

Another round for the lady!

A Case for DVR

2 02 2009

There are a few things that will get me “giddy” in this world.  Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is one of those things.  So when I was over at a friends house watching the Bowl of Super or “Super Bowl” and the trailer came on it was a big deal.  So big in fact the room went silent and everyone gave it 100% of their attention.  Once it was done, we watched it again.  The first thing I did this morning was watch it again.  Rewind.  Watch it again.

Now tack on the G.I. Joe Trailer that aired (and I missed somehow) and last night was a tour de force awesome.  I just watched the G.I. Joe Trailer a few times and I’m stoked for that too.  I think 2009 is going to be alright.

Hook, Line, & Stinker!

13 12 2008

If there was any doubt that the remake of the 1951 classic The Day the Earth Stood Still starring none other then Neo himself, Keanu Reeves was going to anything less then horrible, you have to look no farther then the media blitz leading up to it.  Not only are commercials running none stop on the television box, nearly all of the Gametrailers.com videos have spot for them too.  But that is not what nails that coffin shut.  A few days back a TV spot aired and at the end it stated that “See the X-men Origins: Wolverine trailer, only with The Day the Earth Stood Still!”

So let me break this down, your tactic to get butts in seats is to exclusively show a trailer for another movie.  Bravo!  How Meta is that.  Good job Fox advertising.  You have managed the impossible.  You have pulled off the “Movie Industry” equivalent of a time share sales pitch.  I however have seen through your crafty subterfuge and refuse to partake in your shenanigans.

Let’s face facts, it’s not like that trailer won’t be up on the youtubez by the end of the weekend, oh wait, it already is.

Not So Special Features

11 12 2008

Last night I picked up The Dark Knight 2 Disc Special Edition DVD from Best Buy.  I had a chance to make my way through the Special Features and I was a little disappointed.  While the two making-of features were good, there was only two!  I could care less about galleries.  I saw the “Gotham Tonight” episodes long ago.  And IMAX sense only look good in IMAX!  It would seem that if I wanted to get all the goodies, I should have got the Blue-Ray version, but since I don’t have a Blue-Ray player that isn’t going to happen.

Now, it does come with a Digital Copy that I can put on my iPod, which is a great move, thank you Warner Bros.  I just find it mind boggling that so much I would expect to be in this “Two-disc Special Edition” would be missing.  No Directors commentary!  Come on!

Wait, this just in…I’m done buying DVD’s.  At least until they release a better version of The Dark Knight, with some features I can sink my teeth into.  I’m weak.

I have seen the light, and it was hella bright!
