The Impressions That I get

2 06 2009

The big 3 press conferences are over and what a treat they were.  Full disclosure here, I didn’t see Nintendo’s so I’m going to refrain for speaking too much about them, but from what I read we can expect more Mario.  Shocking, I know.

Microsoft definitely asked uncle Bill for a raise in their E3 allowance.  The remaining Beatles and Steven Spielberg!  Wow, star power goes to Microsoft.  Games aside, the Facebook and Twitter integration looks cool.  Netflix upgrade is a long time coming.  And the 1080p streaming sounds awesome…IF the ISP’s play ball with bandwidth caps.

Sony’s focus on the PSP and PSP Go was a little much for me.  I don’t play portable games on my PSP or DS.  My hands are two big and cramp up.  Would have really liked to see a realease date for Gran Tourism 5.  The trailer was cool, but come on!  Anytime this decade Sony?

Now, motion controls.  Look, I like the idea, I really do.  But this could turn bad quick.  Both Sony and MS showed working demos that were close but not fully bake…yet.  MS’s is completely free of any wand or mote of any kind but lacked precicion.  Sony’s had a wand that reminded me of something out of Total Recall but looked more accurate.  Honestly, it’s too close to call right now.  Both companies have really good products it would appear.  What it is going to boil down to is how well it works and (most important) price!

These are going to have to be bundled with systems if they hope to really get a good saturation of users.  By it’s self if the price is too high, forget it.  $99 with a game like Wii Sports is more then likely what is going to happen.  Sony did go as far as to say that theirs will be ready by spring 2010.  MS didn’t even hint at a release date.  Time will tell on this one.

No Time

27 04 2009

It would appear that no TV and Games makes Mike a dull boy.  I’m struggling to create content to put up because frankly, life is getting in the way.  That said I have been keeping up on stuff, just not able to write about.  So in an effort to get up to speed, I’m just going to Bottle Line it:

iPhone: I’ve had it for a week and some change now and it works great.  It has allowed me to do so much more.  Facebook and Twitter apps are the ones I use most.  Mafia Wars is a great distraction for a few minutes.  The JPAG has pushed my Maifa up into the 4o’s…sorry, 52 now.  Viva la Steve!

Games: I haven’t played any games on my 360 in weeks.  School work precludes me from spending any amount of time with it.  I did manage to download, play, and get frustrated with the Red Faction demo.  Look, I was a big fan back on the PS2.  I spent hours just goofing around with the engine.  I hope that the problems I had were just in the demo.  First off, there was a 10min time limit.  Fine, after restarting the mission for the 7th time, I had forgotten about it.  So when I got in the Walker I had 30 seconds to reach the objective across the map.  Needless to say, I didn’t make it.  After that, I was done with the game.

Movies: Finally saw I Love You, Man the other day.  I enjoyed myself.  Jason Segel stayed clothed during it so that was a plus.  The more I see of the new Star Trek movie, the more I want to see it.  I know that I’ve said that J.J. Abrams was on my Shit List after Cloverfield (and he still is), but this looks good.

School: This is the biggest time suck EVER!  In fact, I’m off to there now.

don’t mind if I do!

King of the Demo

Just watched The Foot Fist Way.  Not bad.  Not great, but still very enjoyable.  It could have used a little Hollywood spit and polish, a little bit more editing (some parts kinda dragged a little), and the ending left a lot to be desired.  Overall, I had fun watching it.  I can already tell my buddy Joe and I are going to quoting it for years to come.

Next on the list is My Name is Bruce starring the one, the only Bruce “Mother F*cking” Campbell.  I just moved it to the top of my Netflix queue.

Spring Breaked

4 04 2009

Today in the end of my Spring Break.  I spent all of it being sick.  A nasty head cold kicked into full force on last Friday knocking me on my ass good and proper.  It’s not like we had great weather here in Chicago to use this time off effectively.  But in true fashion I felt well enough to get out and about on my last day off.  A light workout in the morning went well too.

I think starting on Monday I’m going to shake up my workout routine.  I have been running 3 miles pretty well for a few weeks now, and I’m going to up it to 6.  Then I’m going to tack on some circuit training to compliment my standard weight training routine.  By then this nasty little bug should be completely out of my system and I can get back to business as usual.

According to the interwebz my Motorola RAZR V3xx l-m-n-o-p cell phone has a little quark.  When the SMS inbox reaches a certain point (around the 400-ish mark) it changes all SMS messages to MMS.  This weird little glitch is the final nail in the coffin for this phone.  I have been toying with getting a new phone for a while now and now it just became a necessity.  I have seen an uptick in my texting (hence the inbox glitch) and I really want a full QWERTY keyboard.  This pressing the “2″ key three times to get the letter “C” is for the birds!

And from there it snowballs.  A really web browser would be really nice.  My RAZR has what AT&T calls web access, but it’s bull!  A camera would be nice, but no phone has a good camera.  So I back to where I started before.  I’m not changing carriers.  I’ll agree that AT&T is one step above the spawn of Satan, but better the devil you know.  Over all, I have been pretty pleased with their service (unlike Nextel).

The Blackberry Curve or the iPhone are my two front runners.  The iPhone has been getting a lot of flack and I’m not above jumping on the Apple Hate Wagon, but the Curve has it’s issues too.  The big thing that was holding me back in the Data plans.  From what I can tell each one requires a $30 a month data plan and that doesn’t include text messages.  WTF?  Are those bytes different?  The whole thing screams rip off to me.

I hate the idea, but I need to look into this more.  Ugh.
